I have a dream today.
I have a dream that one day I can install a new toilet in my house that uses about eight gallons of water to flush.
I have a dream today.
I have a dream that one day I can get into my car and choose whether I want to wear my seat belt or not without fear of getting a ticket.
I have a dream today.
I have a dream that one day I will be able to decide for myself whether to allow people to smoke inside my business.
I have a dream today.
I have a dream that one day people will regulate their own behavior by conscience and not by the demands of their government, and will not feel the need to regulate the behavior of their neighbor that has no impact on themselves.
And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

I have a dream that one day all plus-size women will wear clothes that either fit or are too big.
I'm a libertarian at heart, but for the sake of debate...
If Americans were good citizens (as they perhaps once were), the government would have no need to regulate lives the way they do. But as long as citizens are willing to put others' basic rights at risk (e.g., wasting the common fresh water supply, or exposing others to known carcinogens) for their own selfish convenience and luxury, the government has no alternative but to protect the public from these selfish individuals through regulation.
The problem with "...not feel the need to regulate the behavior of their neighbor that has no impact on themselves" is that their neighbor lacks the empathy to understand or appreciate the impact they impose.
That said, I can't think of any reason to require adult citizens to wear seat belts.
Greg, as you know, where I live, the water comes out of the well and goes into the septic. It's my own water supply I'm wasting, and it will go right through the septic and back into the water supply after being filtered through the earth. In the end, there is no real waste involved. For as long as the earth has been around, every molecule of water has probably been in someone's urine about ten times already. Matter cannot be created nor destroyed (except by nukes), right?
If smoking is allowed in my business (which I would personally never do), individuals can decide for themselves if they want to work for me or be my patrons. Some people don't want exposed to it, while others would frequent my business just for that reason (which is stupid). Life is full of choices. I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to make them for myself.
