I read a short blurb about a guy who paints the inside of the Mackinac Bridge towers. He was on the show Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe, which is probably the only recognition he will ever get. Nobody ever sees this guy's work. All the people who use that bridge depend on him, because the painting is done to prevent the bridge from rusting from the inside out--but few if any of them even realize that guy exists.
Sometimes, it's easy to feel like the work you are doing is completely unappreciated. Nobody cares. If nobody cares, maybe that means it doesn't matter.
Your work matters. Even if you aren't doing the right things--it is still making a difference one way or the other. Everyone likes to be appreciated, but even if you aren't, don't underestimate your value.
On the bright side, if no one notices your work, they won't complain.
